Teaser

I've been working on my own comic project lately, which will probably end up published on the web. I've gotten some very positive feedback from the friends and family who have seen it. But I'm holding off on publishing anything until I feel I have enough of the story finished to leave a good impression. So as a compromise I decided to drop the first panel on my website (without the narration). I'm only drawing the second page but hopefully I can work out my process for this comic and speed it up.  Click the image for the full size version.

BP BS

It's hard not to think about BP and the damage the company has done. This came out of some of that thought. Feel free to use this image anywhere you like. I have licensed it under a Creative Commons license. Click the image to see a large version.

Kids Read Comics Convention

Back in March I drew a promotional piece for an art auction benefitting Kids Read Comics. The date for the convention is coming up fast and the convention organizers asked for help from bloggers in promoting the convention. Seeing as I still have friends and family in Michigan, I thought I'd help put the word out.

The Kids Read Comics Convention is a totally free event that unites kids, teens, parents, teachers and librarians with professional artists and writers from the comics and animation fields. The convention is in its second year and takes place in Dearborn Michigan at the Henry Ford Centennial Library on June 12th and 13th. The convention is family friendly and is like a mini comiccon but with a focus on the art of creating comics and education.

Features listed for the even are:

  • Hands-on workshops
  • Panels and presentations for kids, families, and educators
  • A chance for kids to meet and chat with comics and animation professionals
  • The opportunity for kids to have their own art portfolios reviewed

Check out KidsReadComics.org for more information!

Thunder Lizard Island pencils for Kids Read Comics

Recently I pencilled some art as a donation to the Kids Read Comics comics event that's happening in June in Dearborn Michigan. Unfortunately I don't have the proper tools to ink a hard copy so Jerzy Drozd of the Art and Story Podcast, Make Like a Tree Comics, Sugary Serials fame took up the task of inking it himself. You can see the finished results, which turned out great, over at yet another project Jerzy is involved in Go! Go! Illustration, a daily sketch site. Click the image to see the full pencils.

Playing Catch with Jerzy Drozd

Yesterday Jerzy Drozd, of Sugary Serials, Make Like a Tree Comics, Art and Story podcast, and Go! Go! Illustration (where does he get all that energy?) posted his pencils for his daily sketch turning them over for anyone to try their hand at inking. I caught the toss, got the file, opened Photoshop and using my tablet went to town on the piece. It was interesting to ink someone else's work. Interesting figuring out how someone else draws things, fighting my urge to make changes to the way I would do things. It was a fun learning experience. Check out the original pencils at Jerzy's blog, and click the image above to see the full image.
